Known to titillate, and set to tease, the tempting ‘girl next door’ of the 1940’s and 50’s has re-entered the building!
The Gallery serving as ‘the host with the most’ for this Adoration to the past time, provocative pin-up paintings, is that of Louis K Meisel, situated in New York City.
With perky pin-up poses becoming prominent during the 1940’s and 50’s, and continuing to climb on every gentleman’s desire for generations to come, these buxom bombshells were depicted scantily clad, and cavorting in many a manner, whilst always preserving an essence of innocence, and all american sweetness.
Originally in works of oil, then evolving into prints, these uncontrived beauties were captured casually cascading themselves in magazine centrefolds, always ‘accidentally’ exposing themselves in calendars and posed to perfection on playing cards.
These erotic artworks became quite a kitsch fascination for Louis Meisel in his childhood years, who once became of age, sought out the original paintings and became the leading dealer and collector of the original pin-up pieces!
Gallerist Meisel went on to assist a likeminded European collector in the 1980’s/90’s.
The duo carefully compiled “The AK collection” which is dubbed as one of the finest pin-up collections, featuring instantly recognisable and publicised art works.
Now, 20 years later, this collection will return to the Louis K. Meisel Gallery for exhibition in……
“The Great American Pin-Up Returns”
Consisting of 47 pieces, the suggestive selection of rare and oversized oil, watercolour and pastel wonder-works, by the professors of peek-a-boo Gil Elvgren, Rolf Armstrong and Alberto Vargas, will be exhibited from the 2nd of April to the 2nd of May.
